Difficulty Grading

Understanding Our Trip Difficulty Levels

At Mission Himalaya Treks, we offer a wide variety of trekking, tour, and adventure experiences across Nepal, Tibet, and Bhutan. Different trips have different duration, height, and terrain, and physical requirements. We have a difficulty grading system of all our itineraries so that you can decide on the most appropriate adventure.

Our grading system is aimed at providing you with a rough idea of the level of fitness, trekking experience and preparation needed to complete each trip. In case you have doubts about what trip will best fit you, our team can assist you in locating an itinerary that fits your capacities and travel objectives.

Easy

Most travelers including families, first-time visitors, and individuals with minimal or no experience in trekking can do easy trips. These are trips where short walking days are the order of the day, comfortable lodging, and the elevation is not too high.

Easy tours and treks emphasize more on sightseeing, culture and savoring the natural beauty of the destination, as opposed to physical challenge. A minimum level of fitness is often good enough.

Moderate

The moderate trips are perfect to active travelers who like walking frequently and outdoor activities. Such itineraries can consist of a number of days of trekking, increased hours of walking, and moderate altitude gains.

Although prior experience of trekking may be useful, it is not always required. The trips should be enjoyable and attainable to the travelers who are reasonably fit and well prepared to carry out the trips.

Moderately Challenging

These trips involve longer trekking days, steeper ascents and descents, and higher elevations. Physical fitness is advisable and prior experience in hiking or trekking may be helpful.

The tourists must be ready to spend consecutive days walking mountain trails and simpler amenities in outlying locations. Correct preparation and being positive is a great step towards a successful journey.

Challenging

The hard trips are aimed at more experienced trekkers or physically fit travelers wishing to have a more challenging adventure. Such itineraries are usually characterized by high altitude trekking, long walking days, and rugged mountainous routes.

The participants must be able to walk a couple of hours a day and be able to cope with different weather conditions. It is highly advisable to train prior to the trip.

Strenuous

Among the most challenging tours we have to offer are strenuous adventures. They are usually characterized by long walking days, a lot of altitude, remote surroundings and physically demanding conditions.

These expeditions are demanding in terms of fitness, stamina and prior experience of trekking. A demanding Himalayan adventure requires proper physical and mental preparation by the travelers.

Difficulty Factors

Distance is not the sole determinant of the overall difficulty of a trip. The difficulty of the journey can depend on various factors such as the elevation, the state of the trail, weather conditions, number of hours walking daily and availability of facilities along the trail.

Even with relatively short walking distances each day, high-elevations Nepal and Tibet can feel more challenging than lower altitude travel. Equally, the distant hiking trails tend to be more enduring and adaptable compared to more advanced paths.

The Right Trip

A choice of a trip should correspond to your fitness and experience to be safe and fun. Being realistic about your physical condition and traveling expectations will enable you to have a more rewarding experience.

Our team will always be willing to talk about your interests, past experience in trekking and fitness level so that we suggest the best itinerary.
