However, the highlight of our short Manaslu circuit trek is the crossing of the impressive Larkya La Pass, which stands at 5106 m between the Manaslu and Annapurna regions.

The adventure of our short Manaslu circuit trek begins with a long mountain drive from Kathmandu to Gorkha District. Your trek will then start through the enchanting Gurung communities of the Budhi Gandaki Valley.

As you continue, the stunning alpine landscape of the Manaslu region will captivate you thus leading you to the pass. Once you have crossed the pass, you will make your way down to the famous Annapurna region from where you will travel to Kathmandu.

So if you want to truly live the spirit of the Himalayas in an unspoiled area away from mass tourism, then you should certainly not miss our short Manaslu circuit trek.

Be prepared to be challenged and to discover new places and a new aspect of yourself.

The Manaslu circuit trek is, however, still restricted and is accessible to organized treks with a minimum of two participants. The trek is moderate in nature and requires patience and physical fitness, Although the trek is non-technical, it is best suited for physically fit beginners who prepare properly for high altitude conditions. Spring and autumn are particularly the best seasons for our short Manaslu circuit trek.

Short Manaslu Circuit Trek Related Information

Trek Difficulty

The Short Manaslu Circuit Trek is graded as a moderate trekking adventure that requires good physical fitness and patience. Even though the path is not technical and requires no climbing skills, it is characterized by the long walking days, high altitude, and the mixed terrain. You will pass through forest trails, rocky trails, suspension bridges, and alpine terrain and then you will get through the Larkya La Pass which is a difficult path at 5,106 meters.

The number of hours of walking per day is usually 5-8 hours based on the location of the trail. The pass crossing is the most challenging day, and it means stamina and a gradual pace. Prior trekking experience is not compulsory but convenient.

Manaslu Circuit trekking experience with appropriate preparations, gradual acclimatization and the support of the highly experienced personnel makes the experience both realistic and very fulfilling. The trek is appropriate to both the determined beginners and the experienced trekkers who want to take a less busy route in the Himalayas.

Weather and Best Season

The Short Manaslu Circuit Trek can be completed in different seasons, but spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) are considered the most favorable periods. The weather during these months is usually clear with mountain scenery being clear and temperatures being stable to allow high altitude walking. The spring is characterized by blooming rhododendron forests and colorful landscapes whereas the fall is characterized by fresh air and good visibility following the monsoon rains.

Winter (December to February) is also possible and includes lower temperatures and snow at Larkya La Pass which can make the crossing more difficult. The heavy rainfall, slippery paths, and possible landslides during the lower part of the Manaslu region are caused by monsoon season (June to August).

The Himalayan weather is subject to rapid change particularly beyond 3,500 meters. It is necessary to use proper layering, a jacket, warm clothes, gloves, and protection against the sun. Choosing the right season greatly enhances your Short Manaslu Circuit Trek experience.

Food & Drink

During the Short Manaslu Circuit Trek, meals are served in local tea houses along the trail. Generally, the menu has Nepali dal bhat (rice, lentils, vegetables), noodles, soups, potatoes, eggs and simple international foods. Dal bhat is also very recommended since it gives the body balance of nutrition and energy to carry out long days of walking.

The higher you go, the fewer options are available in terms of food but it is still satisfying and freshly made. Vegetarian food is also very accessible with meat products being more prevalent in rural areas. Make sure that your guide is informed about your dietary preferences or allergies to food.

During the trek, safe drinking water is necessary. Instead of untreated sources, boiled water, water purification tablets or filtered water are the suggested sources. Hydration helps acclimatize and be comfortable on the whole Short Manaslu Circuit Trek.

Permits and Entry Requirements.

The Short Manaslu Circuit Trek lies within a restricted area and requires special permits. No independent trekking is allowed and a minimum of two participants must accompany a registered trekking agency. The permits required are usually Manaslu Restricted Area Permit, Manaslu Conservation Area Permit (MCAP) and Annapurna Conservation Area Permit (ACAP).

The cost of permits changes according to the season and days of trekking in the restricted zone. These forms have to be organized in a licensed trekking company prior to departure.

The majority of international tourists receive a tourist visa to Nepal on arrival at Tribhuvan international Airport. It is good to bring passport-size photographs along with the visa fee in cash. With proper documentation arranged in advance, your Short Manaslu Circuit Trek will proceed smoothly and without administrative concerns.

Health & Safety

This is a high-altitude trek with Larkya La Pass at 5,106 meters, and acclimatization is valuable. The schedule is set with the slow increase of elevation to allow your body to naturally adapt. A steady pace, proper hydration, and balanced nutrition are important in reducing altitude-related discomfort.

Simple tea-houses can be found all along the road, but in small villages there are no medical centers. It is advisable to always have personal medicines and a little first-aid kit. The guides are trained to observe the signs of altitude sickness and act accordingly should the need arise.

Conditions of trails include stone steps and forest tracks and rocky alpine conditions. It is necessary to have durable trekking boots with a good grip. Short Manaslu Circuit Trekis safe and manageable with reasonable preparation and responsible leadership to prepared trekkers.

Transportation

Short Manaslu Circuit Trek starts with a long and scenic road trip to Kathmandu to the Gorkha district and the Valley of Budhi Gandaki. After Arughat, varieties of road conditions can be experienced and at times, it may be rough and bumpy. Transport by Jeep is more comfortable than local buses.

The journey will follow the trek to and around Dharapani, followed by a jeep ride to Besisahar and a road run back to Kathmandu. The time it takes to travel is based on the road and traffic conditions but it usually takes one day.

Nepal has mountain roads that may be winding and narrow and thus a person has to be flexible. Although the drive can be long, the varying landscapes between the hills and the high mountains make the journey a very intriguing aspect of the entire adventure.

Travel Insurance

This is a limited area trek in Nepal and comprehensive travel insurance is highly suggested. Your insurance policy must cover high-altitude trekking up to at least 6,000 meters, including emergency medical treatment and helicopter evacuation.

Even though the road is non-technical, the weather is unpredictable, and height problems or accidents can happen in the isolated mountain roads. A good insurance cover guarantees a swift solution without the strains of money.

It is recommendable to have both the printed and electronic copies of your insurance details. Sufficient coverage offers stress relief to enjoy the mountain sceneries and cultural experiences during Short Manaslu Circuit Trek.

Your Extra Expenses

Although you will get most of the essential services in your trekking package, there is always personal cost that you must expect in Short Manaslu Circuit Trek. Hot showers, charging batteries, using Wi-Fi, snacks, bakery products, and bottled beverages are the types of items that are typically charged as an extra in tea houses. The higher you go the higher the prices because of the difficulty of transport.

Lunch and dinner in Kathmandu, shopping in person and guide and porter services and tips are also not included unless specified as such in your contract. Tipping is not compulsory but welcome in case you are pleased with the service.

It is also worthwhile to take all the Nepali money prior to the begins of the trek since there are no ATM machines in most parts of the Manaslu trail. Budgeting will make you have fun on the trek without any sudden pressure caused by finances.

Language & Communication

The national language is Nepali, although other ethnic groups living in the Manaslu region have their local dialects, i.e. Gurung and Tibetan-inspired languages. Basic English communication is most often comfortable in tea houses as well as with licensed guides.

Your guide will help, will explain the culture, engage with the locals, and make practical arrangements along the trail. Knowing simple greetings such as Namaste develops a good rapport with the locals in the villages.

It is also important to communicate in a respectful way particularly when entering monasteries and traditional settlements. Before taking photographs of persons, it is polite to seek permission. The cultural component of the Short Manaslu Circuit Trek is more significant and memorable due to friendly and thoughtful interaction.

Mobile Network, Internet and Charging Facilities.

Mobile cover can be used in the lower parts of the trail but as you approach higher villages like Samdo and Dharmasala, mobile coverage becomes weak. Relative to other providers, Nepal Telecom usually offers better connectivity in remote territories, although the connection is not always steady.

Other tea houses do have limited Wi-Fi connectivity at extra fees, although the Wi-Fi may be slow because of the remote location. Most lodges have charging facilities which they usually charge a small fee.

It is highly advisable to carry a power bank and spare batteries. Solar energy can be used to supply electricity to high villages, but when there is a cloudy day it can be scarce. Through a simple preparation, it is still possible to keep in touch during the Short Manaslu Circuit Trek.

Don’ts on This Trek

The journey and respect of local culture and environment is a must. Wear simple when in monasteries and do not touch religious items without permission. It is a local Buddhist tradition to walk clockwise around mani walls and prayer wheels.

Keep the path clear and do not discard plastic rubbish. Bring along reusable water bottles and recycle garbage. Do not disturb livestock and wildlife in alpine pastures.

When going over suspension bridges and slender trails, patience is needed, particularly when mules are in a caravan. You must never take shortcuts and disobey your guide. Responsible behaviour will ensure that there is the preservation of both the natural and cultural beauty of the area to future trekkers.

Trip Extension

Once you have finished the Short Manaslu Circuit Trek and arrived at Dharapani, there are a few other alternatives to continue your Himalayan experience. As the route links to Annapurna region, you can proceed to Annapurna Circuit destinations like Chame, Pisang or even Thorong La Pass in case of time. This gives it a more varied and extended mountain adventure.

Pokhara is also a favorite destination to travelers who want to have an easy extension after exploring the mountains. The lakeside town provides relaxation, picturesque scenery and cozy hotels. Wild life safari in Chitwan National Park or cultural trips to Lumbini can also be made.

This is a trek which can be integrated with high mountains, cultural heritage and even natural diversity with a careful planning and make it a part of the bigger Nepal itinerary.

Photography & Drone Rules

The mountainous scenery, glaciers, monasteries and the traditional villages give excellent photography chances along the path. The mornings and afternoons tend to be the best times of day when the mountain views are the clearest and the natural light is the softest.

Always request permission before shooting the local people, monks or religious ceremonies. Certain monasteries might not allow indoor photography, and it is necessary to comply with the local rules.

The operation of the drones in Nepal must be sanctioned by the government and civil aviation authorities. Unlicensed flying may result in fines or confiscation of equipment. To the majority of trekkers, the most convenient and least dangerous forms of recording memories are handheld cameras or mobile photography.

Tips for First-Time Trekkers

In case it is the first high-altitude trekking experience you have to do, preparation is important. Cardio training and leg-strengthening exercises with regular walks several weeks prior to departure can make trail life a lot more comfortable. Trekking boots of good quality, layered clothing, and a warm sleeping bag are necessary.

Speed is not as important as pacing yourself during Short Manaslu Circuit Trek. Slow walking, taking enough water and listening to your body will assist in adjusting to the altitude. Villages like SamaGaon have days off only once in a week that can be utilized to acclimatize.

Weather in the mountains is subject to change and thus the flexibility and patience is essential. With all relevant arrangements and a positive attitude, the trip around the mountain Manaslu would be possible and highly valuable.
