Kakani, the place with fewer crowds beckons each of the hiking lovers to pay a visit to these destinations once in a lifetime. Situated a few kilometers northwest of the Kathmandu Valley, a day hike to Kakani gives you a full insight into the lifestyle of rustic Tamang Village. Like other hiking near the Kathmandu valley, this Kakani Hiking too caresses your eyes with the enthralling mountain and valley views.
Popular for sprout fish and strawberry farming, as you enter the village of Kakani, you can enjoy fish delicacies and fresh strawberries too. If you are lucky enough then, you can taste the fresh strawberry wine during your visit.
For mountaineering lovers, there are artificial rock climbing walls on this hilltop. If you want more thrill, then with a bit of endurance and patience you can also try natural rock climbing here. To flourish the tourism industry in Kakani, this rock climbing adventure has contributed a lot.

Your Kakani Day Hike commences from Kaulithan. After driving for one and a half hours on the Pasang Lhamu Sherpa highway, leaving the main road turns towards the graveled road on the left side. Proceeding the trek from Kaulithan, traverse the jungle of rhododendrons, pine, and oak forest. The path leads you to the Army training camp. From the Camp, the market of Kakani is not a far distance. As soon as you reach the market location, various restaurants and shops come to your sight. However, simply the market is not your ultimate destination here. Therefore, continue further hiking until there come the popular picnic spots on your view.
Upon reaching Kakani hill station, you get to visit the Thai Memorial Park. As a tribute to the 113 victims of the 1992 Thair Airlines crash, this memorial park was built. Visiting this park you can see the engraved names of all the victims. For your exploration, there is an adorable statue of Lord Gautam Buddha inside the park. Furthermore, standing at any of the boulders inside the park, you can enjoy the stunning views of the Manaslu, Langtang, and Annapurna ranges.
After the wonderful exploration of the park, most of the visitors prefer to linger around various picnic spots of Kakani. Similar to other visitors in Kakani you too relish some time observing the activity of the picnic groups. Furthermore, the presence of benches at this spot lets you spend some relaxing time staring at the magnificent mountains. The view of Nuwakot and Kathmandu Valley also seems much more fascinating from this point.
Witnessing the alluring vistas of mountains and valleys, you then retrace the way back to Kathmandu City. However, if you want a bit longer journey then just ask us. To continue the trek towards Gurje Bhanjyang there are two route options. Following the southern route, you have to cover a distance of around 11km whereas, the northern route consists of around 7km of distance. As the northern one is quicker, we will take you through this route. The northern route heading to the Gurje Bhanjyang offers you the opportunity to enjoy a glimpse of various mountain ranges. It takes around two and a half hours to reach Gurje Bhanjuang from Kakani. Taking the drive from Gurje Bhanjyang return to the Kathmandu Valley.
Those who want more hiking adventures can continue their hike up to the Budhanilkantha. But to complete the Kakani to Gurje Bhanjyang to Shivapuri Hike on a single day, you should have a good fitness level.
If you don’t have the endurance to endeavor the Kakani to Gurje Bhanjyang to Shivapuri Day Hike on a single day then we have got another option for you. Halt the trek at Gurje Bhanjyang and enjoy the wonderful night stay there. Savoring the stunning sunrise views over the glorious mountains, continue the hike via Shivapuri National Park till Budhanilkantha.
