Following an exploration of the valley, we embark on a hike around two renowned villages in close proximity to the Kathmandu Valley – Khokana and Bungamati. Just as Kathmandu is synonymous with the city of temples, Pokhara is known as the city of lakes. Nestled amidst the Annapurna, Manaslu, and Dhaulagiri mountain ranges, Pokhara is a breathtaking city. Our itinerary includes visits to Davis Fall, the Gupteshwor cave (a Hindu shrine dedicated to Lord Shiva), Bindabasani temple, and the Seti River gorge, allowing exploration of their enchanting surroundings.
Recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site and a beacon of world peace, Lumbini holds historical significance as the birthplace of Siddartha Gautama Buddha. Upon your arrival in Kathmandu, you will be warmly greeted by our representative from Mission Himalaya Treks in the traditional Nepali style. They will present you with garlands and accompany you to your hotel in Thamel. After a short rest, we will embark on a sightseeing tour of the captivating twin Newari villages of Khokana and Bungmati, which are located approximately 14 kilometers south of Kathmandu city. You will spend the night at the hotel.
Khokana and Bungmati are two charming Newar Villages situated on the outskirts of the Patan District. These villages have been proposed as Tentative UNESCO heritage sites by the Nepal government.
Khokana is renowned for its Rudryaini temple and is particularly famous for its production of mustard oil. On the other hand, Bungmati, which is a 20-minute walk from Khokana through picturesque paddy fields, is adorned with ancient Newari houses and remarkable architecture.
These twin villages offer a remarkable opportunity to immerse yourself in Nepal’s rich cultural heritage and gain insights into the daily lives of the local people. As you wander through the streets, you will feel as though you have been transported to 18th-century Europe.
After enjoying a delicious breakfast at the hotel, we will commence our scenic drive to Pokhara, which will take approximately 7 hours covering a distance of 200 kilometers. Throughout the journey, we will make several stops at picturesque locations, providing ample opportunities to capture stunning photographs. Our route will follow the Trishuli River, known for its suitability for amateur rafting, until we reach Mugling. From there, we will continue in the opposite direction of the Marshyangdi River for a while. Along the Prithvi Highway, you will pass through quaint and humble villages, while also being treated to breathtaking mountain views, particularly from Khairini and onwards.
If the weather permits, you will be able to catch glimpses of majestic mountains such as Ganesh Himal, Langtang Lirung, Manaslu, and Annapurna as you descend from Kathmandu. In the evening, you can take a leisurely stroll around the charming lakeside area of Pokhara. Alternatively, depending on the time of your arrival, you may opt for a tranquil boating trip on the serene Phewa Lake.
Early in the morning, you will be awakened by a call from the hotel reception, as we have an exciting plan to drive to Sarangkot for a mesmerizing sunrise view. After a hearty breakfast, we will proceed with our sightseeing tour of Pokhara city. The itinerary includes visits to several notable attractions such as Davis Fall, Gupteshwor Cave, Bindabasani Temple, the Tibetan Refugee Camp, and the Seti River Gorge. In the afternoon, you will have free time to explore at your leisure.
Once you have had breakfast, your knowledgeable city guide will be there to escort you. We will begin by driving approximately 12 kilometers from Pokhara to reach Sarangkot, where we will witness the breathtaking sunrise over the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri mountain ranges. The panoramic view from this vantage point is truly awe-inspiring.
Afterward, we will make our way to Davis Fall, a famous waterfall in the area. Just across the road, we will find the entrance to Gupteshwor Cave, where you can marvel at the self-created statue of Lord Shiva and witness the cascading waters of Davis Fall from the other side. A short 5-minute walk from Gupteshwor Cave will take us to the Tibetan Refugee Camp. Here, you will have the opportunity to observe Tibetan refugees engaging in various livelihood activities such as carpet-making, crafting jewelry with semi-precious stones, and selling their wares to tourists.
After spending some time immersing ourselves in the unique atmosphere of the Tibetan Refugee Camp, we will continue our journey to visit the Bindabasani Temple, a significant religious site in Pokhara. Lastly, we will explore the Seti River Gorge, known for its stunning natural beauty.
The afternoon will be yours to explore at your own pace, allowing you to further discover the charms of Pokhara and indulge in any personal interests or curiosities you may have.
Following breakfast, our journey kicks off with a scenic drive along the Siddhartha Highway, covering a distance of 200km over approximately 7 hours, leading us to Lumbini. In the evening, we engage in sightseeing at the Maya Devi temple and explore the surrounding monasteries.
The drive from Pokhara to Lumbini along the Siddhartha Highway unfolds as a captivating transition from hills to plains, showcasing the diverse geographical features of Nepal, ranging from high mountains to hills and the Terai plains. A noteworthy lunch break awaits us in the historically significant area of Palpa, renowned for Dhaka topi and Dhaka-made items.
Upon our afternoon arrival in Lumbini, a brief rest precedes our exploration of the Maya Devi Garden on foot. The vicinity boasts numerous monasteries, crafted by different countries and institutions.
Noteworthy among them are the German Monastery by Tara Foundation, the Nepal Government Monastery, and the captivating Chinese and Korean Monasteries, each infused with profound philosophical elements. Lumbini, the birthplace of Buddha, stands as a UNESCO World Heritage site and a focal point for global peace.
The journey from Lumbini to Chitwan is a picturesque drive lasting approximately 6 hours. Along the way, you will notice a noticeable change in the surrounding vegetation and witness a shift in the local lifestyle. Upon reaching Chitwan, we will enjoy a delightful lunch. Following a short period of rest, we will embark on a village walk to explore the unique culture and lifestyle of the Tharu people, one of Nepal’s renowned indigenous groups.
The Tharu people are well-known for their distinctive huts and the rich cultural heritage they have preserved since their migration from Rajasthan, India. During our village walk, we will have the opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of their traditions and way of life. Upon returning to the hotel, we will be treated to a captivating Tharu dance program. This performance showcases a collection of diverse dances performed by the Tharu community during various festivals, offering a beautiful glimpse into their rich cultural expressions.
Following breakfast, our day unfolds with an exciting itinerary, starting with a visit to the canoeing and elephant breeding center. The adventure begins at the elephant bathing place, offering the opportunity for those interested to enjoy a shower on top of an elephant. After a satisfying lunch, our activities continue with an Elephant safari and Nature walk.
Situated in the proximity of Chitwan National Park, renowned as the prime habitat for tropical animals and plants in Nepal, this day promises thrilling encounters with wildlife. The morning commences with a drive from the jungle camp for a captivating canoeing experience along the Budi Rapti river. The 40-minute canoe ride unveils the beauty of nature, showcasing at least 20 bird species and two sun-basking crocodile species. There are also chances to spot the elusive one-horned rhino and other wild animals.
Post-canoeing, our journey leads to the elephant breeding center, where female elephants are kept for breeding. Playful baby elephants may also greet visitors with their antics. We then head to the elephant bathing place in Sauraha, where participants can engage in elephant bathing for a nominal fee. Afterward, we return to the hotel for a rejuvenating lunch and a brief rest.
The adventure resumes around 3 pm with an elephant ride inside Chitwan National Park, spanning a duration of 2 hours. This excursion promises sightings of various animals, including the one-horned rhino, four species of deer, monkeys, and many more captivating wildlife species.
For those seeking a thrilling adventure that can be enjoyed in just one day, Trishuli River rafting is an ideal choice. Located in Nepal, the Trishuli River offers an exhilarating white water rafting experience suitable for both beginners and experienced rafters.
Your journey begins with an early morning departure from Kathmandu, where you will be transported to the starting point of the rafting adventure. Upon arrival at the river, qualified river guides will provide a comprehensive safety briefing and equip you with the necessary gear, including life jackets and helmets.
