How to get to Pokhara:

Due to no International airport flight occurring in Pokhara till 2023, travelers must choose a domestic flight from Kathmandu Bhairahawa or Chitwan or They must choose Public transportation or Private transportation.

Due to just one international airport in Kathmandu, travelers must come to Kathmandu if they choose a flight to enter Nepal.

Driving can take at least 5 to 8 hours depending on traffic conditions on the road and the types of transportation they choose.

Normally by tourist bus, it takes 7 hours and by private transport takes 5 hours in total even the distance of just 200km. If travelers choose a flight it takes just 25 minutes to go there.

Sometimes due to traffic jams in Kathmandu, it takes 10 hours to Pokhara and travelers get bored and tired.

Kathmandu to Pokhara Bus:

In Nepal, The Bus is the most popular option to go to Pokhara. It’s the cheapest option too. Normally the tourist bus costs approximately US$ 10 to US$ 15 which buses have air conditioning.

But we suggest travelers if they travel to Nepal in spring and autumn they must buy a ticket in Advance. Until last year most tourist buses depart from Kantipath but this year they start to move from Sorakhutte just south of Thamel in a walking distance of 5 to 10 minutes.

Greenline Bus is the most Luxury transport from Kathmandu to Pokhara and Chitwan. But it costs US$ 25 per person. The bus has an inside toilet, Buffet Lunch, and Travel Insurance.

Public Buses are the cheapest option to go to Pokhara. The cost is around 7US$ per person. Only we suggest if you do not take a ticket for a tourist bus you can take a ticket for a Local Bus.

It’s less comfortable and riskier because some micro or local bus speeds are not good according to road conditions. And no fixed place to stop.

The tourist bus has two spaces one for breakfast after 3 hours of driving. Another stop after 2 hours of breakfast taken. The toilet facilities are not good so do not forget to prepare toilet paper on your own.

Private Transport

If travelers hire private transport it’s the best option for traveling. The private transport picks you up from your hotel and drops you at your hotel. It’s comfortable you can stop where you like and take food in your desired place.

Depending on group size you can take a car, Van, Microbus, or Big bus as per your desire. The private car costs around US$ 120 and if you choose a bigger US$ 180 for Van.

For tourists, it is possible to take a flight from the same airport they came from their home. Flight leaving from  Tribhuvan International Airport and landing in 25 minutes to Pokhara. But sometimes delays if the weather is poor.
